What is your Vision
Nov 19, 2024Building the Foundation for a Seven-Figure Chiropractic Practice
Welcome to the Seven Figure Chiro Blog, where we’re dedicated to helping chiropractors unlock their potential and achieve thriving, sustainable practices. I’m Dr. Jeff Berard, your host, joined by my wife and business integrator, Kristin Berard. Together, we’ve spent decades navigating the challenges of running chiropractic clinics, and we’re here to share the insights and strategies that can set you apart.
In this post, we’re diving into the most crucial first step toward building a seven-figure practice: developing a clear vision. Without a vision, it’s impossible to chart a course toward success.
The Recipe for Success Starts with Vision
Success isn’t accidental; it’s intentional. And it all begins with a vision. Your vision is your roadmap, the guiding star that informs every decision and action. As we say, thought + action = outcome. If you can see it and believe it, you can achieve it.
But what does a compelling vision look like? It’s not vague aspirations or fleeting desires. Instead, it’s a highly detailed image of your future. Let’s break it down.
The Art of Illumination: Defining Your Vision
Creating a vision requires clarity and specificity. I challenge every team member—and now you—to vividly imagine your life 20 years from now. Write it down in high definition. Answer questions like:
- What does your bank account look like?
- Are you married? Do you have kids?
- What kind of community do you live in?
- What does your home look like?
- What liberties do you have (e.g., vacations, family time, philanthropy)?
- What possessions or experiences matter to you (e.g., a boat, a lake house, or a home by the ocean)?
The clearer and more detailed your vision, the more actionable it becomes. This is your “art of illumination”—seeing your future so vividly that it feels real.
Why Vision Fuels Passion and Stamina
Vision is more than a mental exercise; it’s the foundation for the passion and stamina* needed to succeed. Without a vision, it’s easy to fall back on old habits, quit when challenges arise, or drift aimlessly. But when you’re deeply passionate about your future, it fuels a relentless drive to overcome obstacles
Here’s a critical insight: Passionate people don’t quit. They lock onto their vision and lock out distractions. This mindset separates those who achieve extraordinary results from those who settle for mediocrity.
Breaking Down Your Long-Term Goals
While a 20-year vision sets the stage, it’s essential to break it into smaller, actionable steps. Kristin suggests structuring your vision like this:
- 20-Year Vision: The ultimate dream—your “why.”
- 10-Year Goals: Broad milestones that align with your vision.
- 5-Year Objectives: Mid-term markers to measure progress.
- 1-Year Targets: Tangible, achievable outcomes for the next 12 months.
- Quarterly Goals: Manageable steps to tackle in three-month increments.
This structured approach allows you to adjust as you progress. Review what works, refine your goals, and stay flexible while keeping your long-term vision intact.
Building the Right Mindset
Success isn’t just about doing more; it’s about doing better. Here are some principles to guide you:
- Shed Limitations: Don’t let past failures or fears hold you back. Learn from them and move forward.
- Relentless Execution: Develop a “do whatever it takes” attitude. Use the acronym AUTO (Around, Under, Through, Over) to tackle every obstacle head-on.
- Be Resourceful: Start where you are with what you have. You don’t need perfection to begin.
- Focus on Productivity: Activity doesn’t equal productivity. Concentrate on actions that directly contribute to your goals.
Commit to Excellence: Each day, strive to do your best with what you have.
Accountability and Action
A vision without action is just a dream. Here’s how to stay accountable:
- Go Public: Share your goals with others to create external accountability.
- Be Opportunistic: Focus on the possibilities, not the barriers.
- Simplify Decisions: Eliminate excuses like “someday.” The time to act is **now**.
- Reflect Daily: Ask yourself, “What did I do today to aggressively build my business?” If the answer isn’t enough, do more tomorrow.
The Role of Passion in Achieving Your Vision
Your vision must consume your thoughts. It should be your driving force—the reason you get out of bed each morning and the last thing you think about at night. Without passion, it’s impossible to sustain the stamina needed to reach your goals.
Kristin and I work as a team: I focus on the ideas and vision, while she brings the organization and execution to make it happen. Together, we’ve found that the synergy of passion and discipline is unbeatable.
